Two Children Die After Being Shot with Unsecured Guns

Eight-year-old Nayeli Carranza Aguilar was shot and killed by another child with an unsecured, loaded gun in Granbury, Texas. The family is cooperating with deputies, who found the gun in the home, but are working to figure out how the children got a hold of it. Nayeli was a student at the local elementary school. The principal shared the news with students and said that the crisis intervention team is at the school for anyone who needs it.

And in the second accidental shooting involving a young child In Miami-Dade in the past few days; 10-year-old Melvin Cockroft, III, fatally shot himself with his father’s gun in his home in North Miami, Florida. So far, no charges have been filed. The police chief said they will evaluate the circumstances that led to the incident. “This is an incident that can certainly be avoided if we practice safe storage of firearms, especially when children are involved.”
