Eight Unintentional Shootings Leave Two Dead and Six Wounded

In Houston, Texas, an 18-year-old was shot and killed by a relative who was trying to take a gun away from him. According to police, the relative was upset the 18-year-old had brought a gun into the apartment, and during the struggle for it, unintentionally shot him. Detectives are interviewing witnesses.

A 17-year-old boy in Galena, Alaska, was accidentally shot and killed in an apparent hunting accident. No further details were reported and the investigation is ongoing.

In another hunting accident, this time in Williamsburg County, South Carolina, a person is in stable condition and expected to recover, after being unintentionally shot in the stomach with one buckshot pellet. No other details have been reported.

A man in a vehicle in Long Beach, California, accidentally shot himself in the lower body. He was taken to the hospital with injuries not thought to be life-threatening.

A 24-year-old man in Chattanooga, Tennessee, was critically injured when another man, who was drinking alcohol while handling a gun, unintentionally shot him. The 24-year-old was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, and the shooter, Brelyn Dossett, was charged with reckless endangerment.

A three-year-old girl in Miami, Florida, accidentally shot herself in the hand. According to police, 23-year-old Orlando Young was watching the 3-year-old relative at her family’s home. Young left the gun on the living room sofa while he watched television, and the girl got hold of it and shot herself. Charges filed against Young include child neglect causing great bodily harm.

In Lubbock, Texas, a toddler was injured when they accidentally shot their finger with a gun. No other information has been provided.

Jonathan Branch, 24, of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound that grazed his knee. Police determined that Branch, who appeared to be under the influence of narcotics, broke into a business and fired shots at the nail salon next door. While firing the gun, Branch accidentally shot himself in the leg. Warrants obtained but not yet served include discharging a firearm in the city limits, damage to property, and breaking and entering.
