Nine-year-old Girl Killed by Unsecured Gun and Eight Others Wounded in Unintentional Shootings

In Memphis, Tennessee, a 7-year-old boy found a gun in a car’s glove box and accidentally shot his 9-year-old sister, killing her. The gun belonged to James Bowen Jr., his mother’s boyfriend. Bowen is facing multiple charges after allegedly leaving his gun unattended.

In Chicago, Illinois, three men were injured when they got caught in the crossfire of a gunfight between two passing vehicles. They were transported to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. Two of the men, a 22-year-old and a 26-year-old, are in critical condition, the other, a 32-year-old, is in stable condition. No one is in custody and the investigation is ongoing.

An accidental shooting in a vehicle injured two 18-year-olds in Stuarts Draft, Virginia. The alleged shooter, Amvion Barbour, 18, was handling a gun in the backseat when it fired and struck the front seat passenger in the lower back. The discharge also injured Barbour’s hand. They were both taken to the hospital and Barbour has since been released and charged with felony reckless handling of a firearm with serious injury.

During a musical performance in downtown Houma, Louisiana, a band member was struck in the head by a stray bullet. He is recovering from a non-life-threatening injury. Police believe the bullet came from a shooting just over a half a mile away.

A stray bullet from gunfire in New Haven, Connecticut, came through a window striking a man sitting in his kitchen. He was transported to the hospital in critical but stable condition. Police are investigating.

In a Walmart parking lot in Clarksville, Tennessee, a man unintentionally shot himself in the hand while trying to break up a fight between two women. The police retrieved the gun and questioned all parties involved.
