In Candor, North Carolina, an 11-year old was killed in a gun accident that occurred while he was visiting a friend.  The child’s name has not been released.

“Investigators learned there were six children in the home at the time of the incident and were left unsupervised, while the mother was at work,” the County Sheriff announced in a statement. “The gun involved was in the home and had been left unsecure and was obtained by children.”

“This is a tragic and sad event for all parties and is a profound reminder of the necessity to security weapons in a home occupied by children as well as to properly supervise children,” he said.  No charges have been filed, but there is an ongoing investigation.
