Three Children Killed in Gun Accidents, Including a Four-year-old Boy
A four-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the hospital, after being wounded by “an apparent accidental gunshot,” at a home in Champaign, Illinois. There is an ongoing investigation into the incident to determine the circumstances of the incident. “My heart is heavy at the tragic loss of life of a 4-year-old child in Champaign,” said the mayor in a Facebook post. “Condolences to the family.”
A 16-year-old high school student was pronounced dead at the scene, after he was shot at a home in Harrison, Arkansas. Investigators determined that a group of juvenile boys were handling a loaded gun and possibly using drugs. A 17-year-old was handling the gun when it fired, and has been charged with negligent homicide.
And two teens were playing with a gun in Vidalia, Louisiana, when it fired, fatally striking a 15-year-old boy. A 14-year-old was detained at the scene. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
