Two Children Injured in Gun Accidents, Including a Two-year-old
A two-year-old shot himself in the left hand with a gun his uncle left unsecured in an apartment in Memphis, Tennessee. Though the child’s injures are non-critical, police say he may lose his index finger.
The child accessed the gun, that was left in a back pack on the living room couch, while people were outside moving furniture. The toddler’s uncle, 35-year-old Christopher Davis, admitted that the M&P Smith and Wesson loaded with seven 45-caliber rounds was his. Davis faces multiple charges including aggravated child neglect and being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun.
And in Scranton, Pennsylvania, a 10-year-old boy was hospitalized after he grabbed his father’s 9 mm Taurus gun, and fired a bullet through his left hand. His is in stable condition. His father, 56-year-old Michael A. Lemongello, had left the gun next to his bed while his son watched television. Lemongello told police he had briefly stepped out of the room, then heard the gunshot. Lemongello was charged with child endangerment.
