Four People Injured in Unintentional Shootings
A 13-year-old girl was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries from an accidental shooting in her residence in San Antonio, Texas. She told police that she was in her room with several other people, when the gun a man was handling unintentionally discharged. No one has been charged.
In a high school parking lot in Stone Mountain, Georgia, a gun discharged inside a vehicle sending a person to the hospital for treatment. The accident happened during dismissal, though the victim was not a student or school employee. In a letter from the school superintendent, “[p]lease be assured that all individuals involved in this incident will face appropriate consequences under both the law and school district policies.” Police are investigating.
And in two separate instances, hunters were injured in accidental shootings.
It appears that a hunter was accidentally shot in the abdomen by a member of his hunting party in a forest in Edgartown, Massachusetts. The group consisted of about 10 to 12 hunters. The victim was airlifted off the island for treatment, and is in stable condition. State environmental police will lead the investigation into the shooting.
And on remote abandoned coal land in Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania, a 24-year-old hunter was struck in the chest by a bullet from someone target shooting. A utility vehicle was used to reach the man, who was then airlifted to the hospital. No other details were reported.
