Teen Dead and Two Other People Wounded in Gun Accidents

In what was described by the police chief in Pembroke, North Carolina, as “…a tragic gun safety handling event…”, a 17-year-old died after being accidentally shot. The victim and the suspect, 37-year-old Marshall D. Hunt were acquaintances. The teen succumbed to his injuries at the hospital and Hunt has been charged with involuntary manslaughter.

In a Miami, Florida jewelry store, a person unintentionally shot themself in the foot. No details about the circumstances of the shooting have been reported as police investigate.

And in Franklin, New Hampshire, police said that two men were “displaying firearms to each other” when 41-year-old Jacob Champney’s gun accidentally fired, wounding the other man in the hip. The wounded victim was found by emergency responders walking on the street, and was taken to the hospital in stable condition. Champney was charged with reckless conduct and felon in possession of a firearm, with possible additional charges pending.
