4-year-old Shot by 9-year-old Brother

In Detroit, Michigan, a 4-year-old boy is in serious condition after being shot in the head by his 9-year-old brother. The 9-year-old found the unsecured gun in his older brother’s bedroom and the boys began to play with it. He told police that his “older brother had shown him the gun before and where it was.” The boys were left unsupervised with their 11-year-old sister, and possibly a 17-year-old. Police say the gun is registered to an owner who is on probation, but so far has not been charged. After the shooting, two people were arrested at the home on unrelated charges, and it will be determined if they had any involvement in the incident.

The assistant police chief emphasized that gun owners with children in the home need to make sure their weapons are secured and have gun locks on them. “You have to secure these weapons. Being a parent is a huge responsibility.”
