Toddlers Find an Unsecured Gun and a One-year-old is Shot and Killed

In an apartment in Tallahassee, Florida, multiple firearms were left unsecured and in reach of two 1-year-old toddlers. A gun unintentionally fired, killing one of the children. It’s unclear how the gun went off, and if the surviving toddler was involved. Police are still investigating to determine whether any charges will be filed. A neighbor in the same apartment complex said via text, “[m]y heart breaks for my neighbors and their families. We have got to do better as a country to avoid these types of situations from happening. We’ve got to take steps to ensure zero children and families encounter this type of tragedy.”

This was the second gun tragedy involving Tallahassee area siblings this week.
