Six Gun Accidents Today

A 3-year-old Trenton, New Jersey boy is in stable condition after shooting himself in the head with a gun brought into the home by 30-year-old Chante Odom. Two other children and an adult male were at home during the incident. Odom has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of dumdum bullets.

Dakota Merritt, a 19-year-old from Fort Wayne, Indiana, accidentally shot and killed himself. Few details have been reported as police continue to investigate.

Police believe a woman accidentally shot herself in the leg while walking her dog in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The woman is expected to be OK and the dog was unharmed. The incident is under investigation.

Several other unintentional shootings occurred during altercations:

In Ottumwa, Iowa, Cory Thompson, 34, fired a gun at a woman he was arguing with and then accidentally shot himself in the face. Thompson faces multiple charges including domestic abuse assault and domestic abuser in possession of a firearm.

Two young men were arguing in Chicago, Illinois, when one pulled out a gun and accidentally shot himself. The other man wrestled the gun away and fled the scene. The victim was arrested and was listed in good condition at the hospital.

And an off-duty police officer, working as a security guard at a CVS in Buffalo, New York, got into a struggle with a 30-year-old man who was trying to leave with unpaid items. “At some point the security guard’s gun discharged striking the customer in the hand,” according to a statement from police. The shooting is under investigation.
