Man Lies to Police About Unintended Shooting of One-year-old Child

Malik Valdez, 23, of Odessa, Texas, was arrested after telling police that a one-year-old child had been shot when a gun fired during a scuffle with a masked intruder. Police determined that the gun had actually been fired from the couch and Valdez later admitted that the accident occurred when a friend had visited and was showing Valdez a gun.  The one-year-old’s injuries are not considered life threatening.  Valdez was arrested and charged with various crimes including injury to a child and filing a false police report.
