Eight-year-old Child is Shot and Killed with Unsecured Gun, and Four Other People are Hurt in Separate Unintentional Shootings

A group of children found a loaded, unsecured gun in a home in Detroit, Michigan. It’s unclear what exactly happened once it was found, but the gun went off killing an eight-year-old. An adult has been taken into custody. “…we have yet another situation where one of Detroit’s children was killed because an adult made a horrible decision to leave the gun unsecured,” said the police chief.

In Louisville, Kentucky, during the state fair, a woman was shot in the foot when a gun that Amari McClung, 20, was carrying unintentionally fired. McClung was carrying a concealed Glock 22 .40 caliber handgun in his waistband, when police say the firearm “negligently discharged” in the middle of a crowd of people. McClung faces charges of wanton endangerment and carrying a concealed weapon under the legal age of 21.

A man was seriously injured after accidentally shooting himself in the thigh in a Walterboro, South Carolina parking lot. He was performing maintenance on his pistol when it discharged. He was taken to the trauma center for treatment and police are investigating the shooting.

And two females were injured by stray bullets today. A 50-year-old woman in Oakland, California was asleep in her home when she was grazed in the head by a bullet from a gunfight outside. At least 20 shots were fired and one bullet went through a wall of the woman’s home. And a 17-year-old girl in Chicago, Illinois was walking in an alley when she was struck in the thigh when gunfire broke out. She is in the hospital in good condition.
