Two Children are Dead and Two are Wounded in Accidental Shootings

In Summerville, South Carolina, a 3-year-old died after accidentally shooting himself while handling a loaded gun. He was taken to the hospital when his mother found him unresponsive in a bedroom. The police report said that there were “multiple firearms accessories strewn across the floor” near where the child was shot. An autopsy will be performed as local, county and state authorities investigate.

A 12-year-old girl in an apartment in Nashville, Tennessee, was critically injured, then later died, after accidentally shooting herself with a 9mm handgun. A group of juveniles, including the victim, were in an apartment at the time of the shooting. A 15-year-old male, who had brought the gun, is being charged with unlawful gun possession and evidence tampering.

And two children were hurt in accidental shootings in Houston, Texas.

A 3-year-old boy was found in critical condition after being accidentally shot. There are conflicting reports about what happened, and so far no charges have been filed.

And a 9-year-old boy was unintentionally shot in the neck as a 16-year-old neighbor was showing him a gun. The boy was taken to the hospital in critical, but stable condition, and is expected to survive. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
