A Soso, Mississippi mother accidentally shot and killed her own teenage son when firing a warning shot to break up a confrontation between the boy and her boyfriend. Her son was running out the door chasing her boyfriend when the shot was fired, she told investigators.  The boy, 16-year old Mikeal Smith, died at the hospital.

Although the incident is reported to be accidental, Smith’s mother has been arrested for homicide and a grand jury will ultimately determine what charges are appropriate. “It’s still early in the investigation,” a Sheriff’s Department sergeant said, “but anyone who fires a round is responsible for it.”
