19-year old Hunter Pontus was killed in a gun accident today in York County, South Carolina. An older man was taking apart a gun when it fired. Woman Struck in Cheek By Bullet Fired in Adjacent Room

Shauna Lovett, a 19-year-old from Laurel, Mississippi, was sitting on a living room couch with her boyfriend, when she was struck in the cheek by a bullet that came from an adjacent room. She was transported to the hospital with a bullet lodged in the roof of her mouth. Her boyfriend’s father, David Anthony Pool, 47, was unloading a Taurus 9mm handgun when it fired, sending the round through the wall hitting Lovett. Pool told police that the gun was missing a part, and when he “racked the slide, there was a round in the chamber that didn’t eject” and when he let the slide go forward the round was fired. A handgun with a loaded magazine was found on top of a pile of clothes.
