Fire Marshal Shoots Himself With Illegal Gun
While on duty at the headquarters of the fire department in Brooklyn, New York, 52-year-old Fire Marshal James Beringer, accidentally shot himself in the foot with an illegal gun. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover. It is unclear why Beringer possessed an illegal gun, since fire marshals in New York City serve as sworn police officers and carry firearms. He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and failure to register a weapon. The incident is under investigation.
