Boy Shoots Self with Gun Found in Drawer, and Two Other Children are Shot as Innocent Bystanders

In Atlanta, Georgia, a 9-year-old shot himself in the hand playing with an unsecured gun he found in a drawer. Police interviewed the child’s grandmother, who was at home when the shooting occurred, and during their search of the residence found an additional unsecured gun. Miuana Fair, a relative of the boy, was charged with reckless conduct. It is unclear if Fair is the child’s grandmother or the homeowner. Police continue to investigate.

And two children were innocent bystanders struck by gunfire:

In Chicago, Illinois, a 9-year-old boy was playing on the sidewalk when he was struck in the ankle by a stray bullet. He was taken to the hospital and is in good condition. No one has been charged as detectives continue to investigate.

And in a Baltimore, Maryland mall, a man was firing a gun while running away from an altercation between two groups of people. A 7-year-old girl was struck twice by the gunfire and is recovering at the hospital. The incident may have been caught on surveillance video, and the mayor and police chief indicate that the shooter will soon be found and charged.
