Woman Injured by Stray Bullet Fired More than 4000 Feet Away

In North Salem, Indiana, a 70-year-old woman was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after sustaining a gunshot wound to her upper arm. It was determined by investigators that she was accidentally shot by people target shooting about 4,400 feet away.

The victim said she “felt something poke her arm.” She told police that she originally believed a bird had flown into her arm and hit her with its beak, but later realized it was a bullet hole.

No charges will be filed.
