Reserve Deputy Dies, and Two Other People are Injured in Gun Accidents Today

Marion “Scott” Fawbush, 60, a reserve deputy with the sheriff’s office in Louisville, Kentucky, died after shooting himself in the leg. Fawbush was in his car after getting off from work when the incident occurred. The accidental discharge struck an artery. Police say there is an ongoing investigation even though the shooting appears to have been accidental.

In Hardin, Kentucky, a 31-year-old subcontractor was working in an apartment complex when he was struck by a stray bullet. He is in stable condition at the hospital. A resident at the complex, Kyle A. Neal, 31, admitted that he was loading his gun when it accidentally discharged, sending the round through his apartment door and striking the victim. Neal has been charged with first-degree wanton endangerment.

And while playing video games in Spring Hill, Florida, Aaron Laskey was accidentally shot in the torso. He was taken to a local trauma center for treatment. His friend, Thesani James, 18, fled the scene but was later taken into custody. Police also recovered the firearm and are looking into its origin. James was cooperative and told police the gun discharged when he took it from his backpack to show Laskey. According to a sheriff’s office press release, he “was unaware the firearm was loaded,” and “he fled because he was scared.”
