Three Children Accidentally Shot on the Day Before Christmas, One Fatally

Jamycah Ramone Frazier-Turner, age 12, of Birmingham, Alabama was unintentionally shot and killed today while visiting friends and family. He was handling a gun when he accidentally fired it, according to police. No information was reported about how he came into possession of the gun.

In Reading, Pennsylvania, a four-year old shot himself in the leg. “Mom explains that she heard a gunshot come from the other room. Numerous other kids in the house testified to the fact that this child was playing with a handgun [when] it discharged into [his] lower leg …,” a police captain said.  He added, “[n]o child of that age should have access to a gun.” (As this blog illustrates, no child of any age should have access to a gun.)  Again, no information was reported about how the child got hold of the gun.

In Hamilton County, Nebraska, a 17-year-old has been hospitalized after being accidentally shot by another teenager. The sheriff’s office determined that the injured child was accidentally shot in the shoulder by another 17-year-old while inside a vehicle after the two had been hunting small animals. The boy’s injuries are not expected to be life-threatening.
