Three-year-old Struck by Stray Bullet, and Off-Duty Detective Accidentally Shoots Herself

In Ridge, New York, three-year-old Lovely Toney was struck by a stray bullet when, according to police, a murder suspect opened fire on detectives. Police had come to an apartment looking for the suspect Gary Jones, and when Jones fired at detectives, three rounds went into the adjacent apartment striking Lovely. Her father said she had just had her bath and was jumping on the couch. “I turned around and my daughter was standing there with blood running.” She was rushed to the hospital and is expected to fully recover.

An off-duty female detective was in a tattoo shop in Miami, Florida, when her weapon unintentionally discharged, striking her in the lower extremities. She was airlifted to the hospital and is expected to be OK. No information about how the gun discharged, but police say the incident is under investigation.
