Accidental Shootings Leave One Dead, Five Wounded

In Columbia, South Carolina, a 7-year-old girl died from what is reported as an accidental shooting. She died at the hospital from a gunshot wound to her upper body. The incident is under investigation.

One child accidentally shot another in Austin, Texas. The victim was transported to a local trauma facility in critical condition. Few details are reported as police continue to investigate. “I was just watching through the peephole and, you know, it definitely scared me,” a neighbor said. “I could just hear the kids screaming and crying, and a couple of minutes later, I guess a bunch of cops showed up and busted in and they brought the child out. The kid obviously just looked unconscious.”

In Columbus, Ohio, a 14-year-old boy was in a garage with friends, when a gun a 19-year-old was holding, accidentally fired wounding the 14-year-old in the arm. He was treated and released at the hospital. Police recovered the gun and were able to confirm the facts of the shooting.

In San Diego, California, a man was hospitalized after unintentionally shooting himself. He was trying to take his gun out of his waistband when it fired.

A 39-year-old man in Manhattan, Kansas, was shooting at raccoons, when shrapnel ricocheted hitting a 36-year-old woman in the head and face. Her injuries were not life-threatening.

Tina Mims of Memphis, Tennessee, was struck in the face by stray bullets as she lay in her bed watching television. The shooting took place near a local church. “I know as a community we have to say no to gun violence in our community. We have do something about it,” the church’s pastor said.
