Six-year-old Shoots Sister While Looking for Candy; Deputy’s Rifle Discharges While Executing a Warrant

In Marion County, Mississippi, a 3-year-old was unintentionally shot in the head by her 6-year-old brother. During the investigation, the sheriff’s office learned that the boy came across a loaded firearm while looking for candy in their grandmother’s bedroom. The victim was airlifted to a local hospital in critical condition. “Tragic examples like this remind us of the importance to secure firearms in the home and out of the reach of children,” the Sheriff said.

The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident in which a sheriff’s deputy accidentally shot a woman while executing an arrest warrant at a local home in San Juan, Texas. A release states, “[d]eputies made contact with a female at the residence by a side door …” While speaking with the woman, the deputy “unintentionally fired his rifle” and “the bullet ricocheted off the concrete driveway and struck the female.”
