Third-Grader Shot and Killed in Illinois

In Matteson, Illinois, 9-year-old O’Mauri Jones-Brown was unintentionally shot and killed when he got caught in a shooting between two groups of young people. O’Mauri was taken to a local emergency room where he died from a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. Police, along with the medical examiner’s office, are investigating. It’s unclear if anyone is in custody.

Denise Jones, O’Mauri’s grandmother, was with him when the shooting began. “I love you. I’m sorry; you called grandma to help. I could help everyone else, but I couldn’t save you,” Jones said.
