One Person Dead, Five Wounded in Unintentional Shootings

In North Little Rock, Arkansas, 18-year-old Benjamin Redix was driving back from 17-year-old Jimari Douglas’s high school graduation, when Douglas unintentionally shot and killed him. Redix, who was due to graduate the next day, was pronounced dead at the scene. Douglas was sitting in the backseat of the car that Redix was driving, “stripping down” a gun, when it accidentally discharged hitting Redix in the back and chest. Douglas is facing manslaughter charges.

In Lafayette, Indiana, a 3-year-old boy found a loaded gun and fired a shot that hit two people. Their wounds were not life-threatening. One victim was his mother, the other, 23-year-old Trayshaun Smith, was found to be wanted on a murder warrant out of Cook County, Illinois. No other details about the shooting have been reported.

In Charlotte, North Carolina, a 21-year-old mother and her infant son were accidentally shot and hospitalized with minor injuries. No other details have been reported.

At a birthday party in Thomasville, North Carolina, teens were playing with a gun when a 14-year-old unintentionally shot a 15-year-old boy in the head. The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition. It’s not known where they got the gun and police continue to investigate.
