An Elkhart, Indiana five-year-old with access to a loaded gun accidentally shot himself in the arm today.  His injuries are not considered life-threatening.  A police investigation is ongoing.

And in Beatrice, Nebraska, a woman was shot by a friend when he was “demonstrating how to stop a hammer from falling in case someone pointed a revolver at her.” [Never mind that this makes no sense.] Arrest documents state that upon arrival officers found “a female victim on the floor as blood was pooling around her legs.”  She was taken to the hospital in an unconscious state, but woke up in route to make clear that the incident was an accident.  The woman’s friend, 35-year-old Mitchell Brooks, was arrested and charged with possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person, discharging a firearm at a person, use of a weapon to commit a felony and second-degree assault.
