In Winnemucca, Nevada, a 48-year-old man died Tuesday morning after being accidentally shot by his friend on a hunting trip. A preliminary investigation by Sheriff’s Deputies and game wardens determined that the man’s friend “was attempting to place his weapon into a plastic gun case attached to a[n] ATV when the rifle accidentally fired, hitting the victim in the chest.”

Nevada law prohibits carrying loaded rifles and shotguns in or on vehicles, including ATVs. Game wardens report that often tragedies such as this occur when hunters are entering or exiting a vehicle with a loaded weapon in violation of the law.
