Torqavious Johnson, age 18, of Greer, South Carolina, was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter when he picked up a handgun that had fallen on the floor and attempted to return it to 17-year old Dalorian Tyler.  According to witnesses, the gun was pointed at Tyler and discharged as Johnson handed it to him. Tyler was pronounced dead a short time later.

The report of the incident contains no indication whether the gun had the types of safety features that might have prevented an accident like this one.  Nor did the report include any information about where the teens had obtained the weapon.

Also in South Carolina, Benjamin Smalls, age 28, of Burton, fired his gun during a domestic dispute.  The round passed through the apartment wall and struck a child in a bathroom in the apartment next door. Smalls was charged with discharging a weapon inside a dwelling, a felony.
