On Memorial Day, two women were shot inside their homes as a result of gun violence occurring outside.

In Queens, New York, 72-year old Margaret Henry, a grandmother and a retired librarian, was struck in the arm by a bullet fired outside.  She was in bed watching television at the time of the incident, having just returned home after visiting her husband at the hospital. “They were firing a lot, she said. “It must have been more than one person firing, because there [were] a lot of shots. I couldn’t count, but it was a lot. I know I never heard anything like this on my block before.”

A Phoenix, Arizona woman was asleep when she was shot in the leg.  Police say the bullet came from outside of the woman’s apartment. Another scene with multiple casings was found elsewhere in the apartment complex.

Neither woman’s injuries are considered life threatening.
