Five more children were killed or injured in gun accidents today.

In Katy, Texas, a four-year old boy died after being shot in the head by his nine-year old brother today with his uncle’s Glock. The uncle, Franciso Lupian, had brought the gun into the home and showed the boys how to use it.  He then left the loaded gun on a dresser in their home.  The boy who fired the fatal shot said that he didn’t know the gun was loaded.

In Sherwood, Arkansas, 14-year old Ahava Ort was shot and killed by a relative who was teaching Ahava how to properly handle a gun.   Ahava was expecting to graduate from high school later this month. “Guns are very serious and they’re dangerous and you must treat every firearm with the utmost respect,” said a police spokesperson.

In Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, two teenagers were injured when a gun they were handling in a group of teenagers accidentally  fired.  Both are expected to survive.  A local police captain said, “it was not a threatening situation, but an accident.”  He called it “a good opportunity for parents to talk to their children about the importance of firearm safety, as well as for parents to know what their kids are doing.”

In Oxnard, California, a 14-year old girl was accidentally shot in the torso by a family member who was showing her a handgun.  No other details have been reported.
