Child Death (18 and Under) Child Under 18 (as Shooter) Ohio Ongoing Investigation

THURSDAY, MARCH 24, 2022

Kismet Sengdan of Akron, Ohio, a ten-year old died today after another child picked up an unsecured gun and accidentally discharged it.  Kismet was visiting at the time.  Police are investigating to determine who owned the gun.

The Akron Public schools issued the following statement after the incident:

“It is with a heavy heart that I share with you the loss of one of our students who attended Harris Jackson CLC, Kismet Sengdan. He was 10 years old and in fourth grade. Every student contributes in no small measure to the community we create together at Akron Public Schools. The loss of any student, particularly in so tragic and senseless a manner, grievously wounds us all. We know that you join us in conveying our condolences to Kismet’s family, and to the faculty, staff, and classmates at Harris-Jackson. We offer them any assistance the district can provide. Our counseling teams are available to anyone who wishes to talk with them about this tragic event.”
