THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2021

For the second time in just over two years, a Horn Lake, Mississippi child was shot and killed in a gun accident.  In both cases, the child was shot by an older sibling. Horn Lake is a city of just 27,000 people.

In today’s incident, few details have been released other than that police have determined that the incident, in which a juvenile was shot by an older sibling, was accidental. No charges will be filed.

In the prior accident, which occurred in July 2019, a 12-year old girl was shot by her 12-year old brother.  The children were at home without a parent and the boy was playing with a gun when the round was fired. It is unclear whether charges resulted.

At the time of the earlier incident, the report acknowledged “it’s the fifth accidental shooting involving a child in … Mid-South [Mississippi] since May 1.”
