Two six-year old children and a five-year old were injured in unintentional shooting incidents today.  Both six-year olds were innocent bystanders to the disputes of others and the five-year old was accidentally shot by her own father.

In Yonkers, New York, a six-year old boy who was answering the door of his home was shot in the chest by a stray bullet fired in a dispute on his street.  He was struck just below the heart, but is expected to survive. “The boy is very tough,” a first responder said. “It’s amazing, considering what happened to him.”

In Jackson, Mississippi, a six-year old boy’s father was arguing with some neighbors. When the man returned home, an unknown assailant followed him and gunshots erupted. Only the boy was apparently struck. He was treated for a bullet wound to his leg.

In Elsa, Oklahoma, a five-year old girl was accidentally shot in both legs by her father, Porfirio Guerrero, III.  After the girl was brought to the hospital ten hours later, her father told police that the delay occurred because “he panicked.”  He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, failure to report a felony, endangering a child, criminal negligence and tampering with physical evidence with intent to impair. The girl’s mother was charged with failure to report a felony and criminal negligence.
