In a complicated incident today, Houston, Texas police accidentally shot a one-year old child in the head.  They were reportedly attempting to prevent a carjacking at the time of the incident.  The baby is in stable condition at the hospital.

Police report that they were chasing an armed suspect, wanted for several aggravated robberies.  At a gas station, the suspect exited his vehicle and got into the car of a woman who was pumping gas.  Police state that they were unaware that there was a baby in the back seat when they opened fire on the suspect after he refused to drop his gun.  The suspect was killed and the baby was struck.

“The most important thing right here, for our entire city, pray for this 1-year-old and that mother,” an HPD Assistant Chief said. “Can you imagine? She’s pumping gas, probably coming from work or whatever, and has to go through this. And now she’s in the hospital and we’re all praying for that baby.”

There is an ongoing investigation.
