SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 2021

At Desert Sky Mall in Phoenix, Arizona, a 17-year old boy was shot as an innocent bystander to an argument between others about a pair of sneakers.  Alejandro Martinez, a high-school student, was shot and killed on the anniversary of the Parkland High School murders.

According to the report, gunfire erupted at a kiosk inside the mall where a customer was apparently complaining about the quality of a knock-off pair of designer sneakers.  A kiosk worker and the customer began to fire shots at each other. Martinez, who was not involved in the incident, was one of two people who was shot. The other, a 20-year old, is expected to survive.

“There was a gun on the floor and blood everywhere. We ducked down; I was so scared,” said a witness who was working nearby. “A customer, he was just upset over some shoes,” she added. The incident itself is captured on video.

Martinez’s death is the latest of four violent incidents at the mall in the last 18 months.
