In Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Richard James Russell was arrested for mishandling a gun after he accidentally shot his 21-year old son in the abdomen. Mr. Russell was showing the gun to his son at the time of the accident. Police also said that Russell initially misled them by claiming that his son had been shot somewhere else.

Three common types of gun accidents were illustrated on Friday.

In Meeker County, Minnesota, Mike Hendrickson, a hunter, unintentionally fired a gun into his thigh while climbing a tree stand. He was airlifted to the hospital after a tourniquet was applied at the scene of the accident. "His first surgery revealed significant loss of tissue, coupled with losing a large portion of his femur," Hendrickson’s brother-in-law wrote in connection with a Go-Fund-Me appeal.

In Louisville, Kentucky, a toddler found a gun in his home and shot himself. Authorities do not believe that his injuries are life-threatening. The child was alone in a bedroom at the time of the accident.

And in Raleigh, North Carolina, a gun was accidentally fired through the floor of an apartment. The resident below was struck and taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
