On Thanksgiving Day, a three-year old in Grand Blanc Township, Michigan found a gun in a bedroom at his home and shot himself in the head. He is in critical condition at a local hospital.

“There’s really no words to describe it in most cases like this,” said Grand Blanc Township Police Chief Ron Wiles. “These are preventable with taking some precautions.”

“We need to be responsible gun owners,” he added. “Have these discussions with your kids, make them aware of what firearms are. But take that next step in properly secure and store those firearms as well.”

Four Children and Two Adults Wounded by Stray Gunfire

In Manhattan, New York, a 4-year-old child and a 35-year-old man are in stable condition after being hit by stray gunfire outside a deli. Two men in a car pulled up to the shop and opened fire, missing their intended male target, and hitting the child and 35-year-old instead. Surveillance cameras reportedly captured the incident, though no arrests have been announced.

In Gordon Heights, New York, Jayce Carillo Maldonado, 8, was sleeping on a couch in his house, when a stray bullet, from a drive-by shooting, flew through the window grazing him. Police report at least a half-dozen rounds were fired at the house, some also going into the adjoining bedroom, though no one else was injured. The investigation continues.

Pete Braddy, a 40-year-old man from Warner Robins, Georgia, thought he heard fireworks outside his home. When he stepped outside, a bullet grazed the side of his head. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover. There is an ongoing investigation.

And in Minneapolis, Minnesota, two children, a 7-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy, were inside an apartment when they were struck by stray gunfire. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. Two dozen evidence markers seen on the scene indicate a barrage of bullets fired outside the apartment. The police chief said that preliminary information suggests the shooting is not random, but the children were not the target. “It is absolutely outrageous when children are victimized by those who have no concern for the sanctity of human life,” he said.
