In Sioux Falls, South Dakota, a 17-year old Native American girl is in critical condition after a gun was accidentally discharged.  According to police,  Artavius Gregerabdo was handling a gun when it went off and shot the girl in the head.  He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and reckless discharge.

The girl who was struck, Reesa Fool Bull, was planning to join the military after graduating from high school. She remains “paralyzed on her right side, blind in her left eye and deaf in her left ear. She’s had four surgeries and is scheduled for another.”

The circumstances of the accident make clear that it might have been prevented by a loaded chamber indicator.
