During a police action in Taft, Texas, a woman was accidentally shot by police.  She was taken to the hospital and is in stable condition.

According to the report, an identified man pointed a gun at police and then retreated into a home.  The woman was injured when police then fired into the home.

When the police later entered the home, they found a man with a gun who had died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds. 

The incident started as a report of a burglary and there is no indication that the woman who was shot was involved in the burglary report or in the gunfire.  Nor is the report clear that the man ever fired at police.  The Texas Rangers will lead an investigation.
