In Charlotte, North Carolina, 2-year old Amor Cureton shot and killed himself with a loaded handgun in a motel.  His father Antonio Cureton was arrested and charged with “involuntary manslaughter, two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a stolen firearm and failure to secure a firearm to protect a minor.”

“This is a tragedy for Charlotte,” a police representative said. “This is the second time in four days that a small child has been the victim of, at a minimum, carelessness with a firearm. At the end of the day, there’s a 2-year-old little boy who should still be with us, but is not.”

A local firearms instructor added, “it’s important to know if there are guns in the homes where people’s children play or visit, as well as how the owners secure their guns. He said it’s key for parents to talk to their children about guns from a young age.”

“They are not toys. You got to make sure they understand they are not toys. And unlike a video game, you don’t come back,” he said.
