Five-year old Ja’Cari Ellis found a gun and shot himself in St. Petersburg Florida today.  He was rushed to the hospital where he later died.  “Our preliminary investigation has so far revealed that this was a tragic accident, that Ja’Cari got a hold of a gun and accidentally shot himself,” a St. Petersburg Police spokesperson said.

According to his great-grandmother, Ja’Cari “was just a real playful young little fellow, full of life.”  She added, ““I’m just really sorry and hurt for him being such a little fellow and I couldn’t imagine the pain he felt when that bullet hit him.”

This incident is one of at least 58 reports of a gun accident in which a child was killed in the last six months.
