A Harwich, Massachusetts police chief appealed a court decision that restored Jeffrey Gomes’ Massachusetts license to carry a firearm.  The license had been restored by the Court even though Gomes had accidentally fired his gun while holstering it during Harwich’s Pilgrim Masonic Lodge corned beef dinner.

The bullet passed through the floor of the lodge into the clothing store a floor below.  Gomes did not report the accident or the property damage to the police at the time it occurred. Instead he made up a story about a pipe bursting in order to avoid frightening the woman who owned the store.
