Two Hunters are Killed, and Two Boys are Wounded in Gun Accidents

Seth Egelhoff, 26, was shot and killed while hunting waterfowl in Panora, Iowa. A member of Egelhoff’s hunting party accidentally shot him in the face. He died on the way to the hospital and authorities are investigating.

Another hunting accident resulting in a fatality happened on the opening day of Modern Gun Deer Season in Lancaster, Kentucky. Evidence suggests that Russell Stillwell, 77, may have been using his deer rifle as a walking stick as he made his way up an embankment, when the rifle accidentally discharged and killed him. The department of fish & wildlife is leading the investigation.

A boy was accidentally shot by his mother who thought he was an intruder in their home in Pembroke Pines, Florida. He has been hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The mother fell asleep on a living room couch, her son went to sleep in his room upstairs. At some point, the son went down to the kitchen. The mother was startled awake by a noise in the kitchen, and grabbed a loaded gun she had in her purse. She approached the kitchen as her son emerged, and they startled each other. The mother fired the gun twice, hitting her son in the leg. Police continue to investigate.

A 14-year-old boy is in serious condition after accidentally shooting himself in Youngstown, Ohio. This is the second incident in less than a month in which a child was involved in an accidental shooting in Youngstown. In today’s case, police are trying to determine where the gun came from as they continue their investigation.
