Five Injured in Unintentional Shootings Including Three Children
A 4-year-old child in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, was injured in what is reported as an accidental shooting. The child was taken to the hospital but the extent of their injuries is not known. The sheriff’s office is investigating.
ShaiAnn Coley, 3, was staying with a relative in Portsmouth, Virginia, when she was struck by a stray bullet that came through the window. Police released video showing at least four people firing multiple rounds in the gunfire that erupted outside. The motive for the shooting is unknown, as police search for those involved. ShaiAnn was released from the hospital and is recovering at home. “When we had first went there, they was like you know, ‘There’s a chance she might not be able to walk.’ But she proved everybody wrong. [s]he’s a tough cookie!” said her mother.
In Columbus, Ohio, a 13-year-old boy was taken to the hospital in critical condition after being accidentally shot. He is expected to survive as detectives continue to investigate.
And in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Cung Hlei Mang, a 19-year-old, was sitting in the backseat of a vehicle manipulating a gun that unintentionally went off. The bullet struck Mang in his left hand and continued to travel striking his friend, also in the vehicle, in the thigh. The driver of the vehicle brought both of those injured to the hospital. Mang is accused of negligent handling of a dangerous weapon and faces a felony charge in the case.
