Child Injury (18 and Under) Child Under 18 (as Shooter) Indiana Ongoing Investigation

FRIDAY, JANUARY 6, 2023

Gun accident news once again centers on a child in Indianapolis, Indiana.  This is at least the third unintended gun violence incident involving a child in that city already this year.

Police report that an Indianapolis eight-year-old is in critical condition at the hospital after she was shot in the stomach in her home. The girl was shot while in her bedroom with a sibling; her mother was in the living room.  Although unstated, the report is consistent with two children finding an unsecured gun in the bedroom. The report does not state which of the children fired the gun.

(Note: This journal will separately address today’s report that a six-year-old in Newport New, Virginia shot and severely injured his first-grade teacher.)
