Accidental Shooting in Vehicle Seriously Injures 12-year-old Girl

A 12-year-old girl was seriously injured after being shot in a vehicle in Wichita, Kansas. Another juvenile and 19-year-old Diego Moreno Espinoza were also in the car. Espinoza was apparently handling a gun that fired, striking the girl in the stomach. He has been charged with aggravated battery.

Four People Killed in Deadly Gun Accidents

Few details were reported in the shooting death of a four-year-old in Springfield, Missouri. Police determined that the child found an unsecured gun and fatally shot himself.

Six-year-old Cyprien Argueta Romero, was pronounced dead at the hospital from a gunshot wound in Nashville, Tennessee. Inconsistencies in the account from his parents, 37-year-old Fredy Martinez and 28-year-old Karen Argueta-Salgado, prompted police to investigate further, leading them to a motel where surveillance footage showed both parents in the parking lot. Their eight-year-old son walked out of a room, bringing them back into it, and then Martinez is seen carrying out a limp Cyprien. After taking the boy to the hospital, his mother left, returning about an hour later. Police found a reportedly stolen, loaded semi-automatic rifle, bloody sheets and crystal meth in the parents’ vehicle. Both parents were arrested on multiple charges including criminal homicide, aggravated child neglect and tampering with evidence.

In Huntsville, Alabama, 15-year-old Javarri Kirk was accidentally shot and killed by a 17-year-old friend. The two boys were in a room together when the gun discharged. A neighbor said they were like brothers, and officials believe that the 17-year-old didn’t think the gun was loaded. There is an ongoing investigation into the shooting, and the 17-year-old has been charged with manslaughter.

And an off-duty sheriff’s deputy accidentally shot and killed her roommate who was returning to their apartment in Tustin, California, after walking her dog. The deputy thought Brittany Shaw, age 35, was an intruder and shot her multiple times. The deputy was placed on paid administrative leave while officials continue to investigate.
