Hunting Accidents Today: One Man Dies, and Heroic Boy is Injured
In Seaboard, North Carolina, 34-year-old Chase Colas was shot and killed in a hunting accident. Few details are reported about the incident as the wildlife department continues to investigate. A friend set up a GoFundMe page and described Colas as “[g]enuinely one of the sweetest men I’ve ever known.”
And a high school senior, Joe Salman, was seriously injured in a hunting accident in Spirit Lake, Iowa. He was shot in the head while duck hunting with friends. In early February, he was one of several people who helped an elderly man and his dog escape from a vehicle that fell through the ice on a lake. He heroically jumped onto the submerged vehicle, broke the rear window, and helped pull the 83-year-old driver to safety. Multiple fund raisers have been set up to help the family with expenses. When he graduates next year, the teen had plans to play football in college and study engineering.
