Five Unintentional Shootings, Including Two in Vehicles
In Jupiter, Florida, a teenage passenger in a vehicle was handling a gun when it unintentionally discharged, fatally striking the driver. The teenager is facing a charge of negligent manslaughter. Police recovered the firearm as they continue to investigate.
Another reported shooting in a vehicle, this time in Riceboro, Georgia, where a 14-year-old, who was sitting in the back seat, accidentally shot himself. He was alert and conscious and taken to the hospital for treatment.
In a bar in Austin, Texas, a gun in someone’s pocket went off, the bullet hit the floor, and two people received minor injuries as a result. Records show that two people have been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.
A 2-year-old in Nacogdoches, Texas, found a loaded, unsecured gun and shot themself in the head. The toddler was airlifted to the hospital and is believed to be in critical condition. Police are investigating.
And a man at a gun range in Sandy Springs, Georgia, accidentally shot himself in the hip as he was putting his firearm away. Few details reported, but he is expected to recover.
