One Dead, 7 Wounded in Gun Accidents

Parsa Danesh, 19, was accidentally shot and killed in Austin, Texas. Police, after consulting with the District Attorney’s Office, say no charges will be filed at this time, but the case remains under investigation.

An 11-year-old girl in Houston, Texas is in stable condition after being hit by a stray bullet from an adjoining apartment. A woman had found the gun in the apartment complex and brought it to a neighbor for safe keeping. The neighbor, is also the 11-year-old’s stepfather, was examining the gun when it accidentally went off sending a bullet through the wall. The district attorney’s office will determine if any charges will be filed.

In Alpharetta, Georgia, two teenage girls, 15 and 18, were hurt in an accidental shooting during a carnival at a popular mall. They were both taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. The shooter, a teenage boy who knew the victims, turned himself into police and is facing multiple charges.

While sitting in a car in Ashland City, Tennessee, an 8-year-old found a gun and accidentally shot a 17-year-old, who was with him, in the stomach. The teenager is recovering as police continue to investigate.

In separate shootings in Evansville, Indiana, a toddler and a teen are both injured.

The toddler, a 3-year-old, is in good condition after accidentally shooting themself in the head with a gun found on a dresser. The child’s mother, Porsha Walker, said she found the gun in her yard and brought it inside, though it was later determined the gun had been stolen out of a vehicle in March. Walker was arrested and is facing charges of neglect of a dependent causing serious bodily injury, dealing methamphetamine, and theft of a firearm.

And the Evansville teen, accidentally shot themself while playing with a gun. The teen’s condition is unclear at this time and police are continuing to search for the gun.

A 1-year-old in Detroit, Michigan was shot in the cheek and shoulder by his 6-year-old brother who found an unsecured, unregistered, semi-automatic gun at home. The baby is in stable condition.  No arrests have been made and the children’s parents are cooperating with the investigation. During a press conference the police chief said, “[h]ere we are again. Once again, another senseless, preventable, horrible incident…[w]e are very, very fortunate the child is still with us.”
